Dayot Upamecano has signed a three-year contract extension with RB Leipzig, the club have confirmed, bringing an end to the speculation linking him with Arsenal.
The 21-year-old is now tied down with the German club until 2023, having been linked with a number of leading European sides.
While an extension of just three years perhaps leaves the door slightly ajar to a potential transfer, it rules out the possibility Upamecano could leave on a free next summer - when his contract was due to expire.
Leipzig sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff had previously admitted the defender would either extend his contract or leave this summer, insisting a free transfer was not on the cards.
"We can assure that we have a clear understanding with him and his agent he won't leave us on a free," Mintzlaff told Bild. "We can't afford that as a club.
"There are only two options: prolong or leave. I am sure we'll soon find out in which direction it's going."
The latest development in Upamecano's contract situation looks to have dented Arsenal's chances of signing the youngster.
Standard Sport understands the Gunners have held a long-term interest in the centre-back, and were alert to the fact he was to be available on a free in just 12 months time.
Reports had suggested Mikel Arteta planned to bring Upamecano in alongside William Saliba, who has now joined up with the Arsenal squad ahead of next season.
For now, however, it appears Upamecano - who has made 111 appearances for Leipzig since his 2017 arrival - will be staying in Germany.
The defender will next look to help his side reach a first Champions League semi-final when they face Atletico Madrid in August.
