Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette has been left out of Lyon’s team for their Emirates Cup game with Villarreal.
The highly-rated French striker looked nothing like the £30 million-plus striking sensation he has been touted as in recent months as his side were hammered 6-0 by a rampant Arsenal in yesterday’s friendly.
And he will get no opportunity to show Arsene Wenger, let alone his own manager Hubert Fournier, what he can do after he was left out of Lyon’s squad for the Villarreal match-up. Indeed the Lyon boss rang the changes throughout, with not one player from yesterday’s side given a chance to atone. However the impressive Nabil Fekir, another player who has been previously linked with an Arsenal move, is on the bench after playing 80 minutes as a replacement for Clement Grenier.
Though this may be based on Fournier’s desire to rest key players his counterpart Marcelino was evidently more impressed with his charges. He named three of his most impressive players from yesterday’s victory over Wolfsburg, Samuel Castillego, Gerard Moreno and Leo Baptistao, in today’s lineup.
Lacazette’s future has been a major story throughout the summer transfer window. However the 24-year-old recently said he was planning for a future at Lyon, with Fournier confirming “we obviously want to keep him at the club”.
