Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has described his move to the Emirates Stadium as a 'dream come true'.

The 23-year-old became Arsene Wenger's first major signing of the summer after completing a £33.8m switch from Borussia Monchengladbach to north London last week.

Xhaka featured in Switzerland's 2-1 defeat to Belgium on Saturday night and expressed his delight at being given a chance to represent the Gunners.

"It was a dream for me [to play in the Premier League] and now the dream is true," he told Sky Sports News.

"I am happy now. I feel good. I'm happy to be a Gunner.

"It was a difficult week but it's official and I'm very happy," the midfielder added.

Xhaka will be expected to fill the central midfield void left by Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky and has been tipped to be a success by former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou.

"He's got the ability to play the Arsenal way," said Djourou.

"He's got this aggressiveness about him that will help him in the Premier League, and he's a great ball player and ball winner as well."

Xhaka will wear the number 16 shirt at Arsenal next season after Aaron Ramsey switched to number eight.
