Arsenal legend Ian Wright shows he's still got it in skills challenge

The Wright Stuff: The striker hammers in a volley

Ian Wright may not have kicked a ball in eight years, but the Arsenal legend seems to have lost little of his footballing talent.

The 51-year-old teamed up with Billy Wingrove and Jeremy Lynch, better known as the F2 Freestylers, for a game of hot shots as all three showed off their immaculate technique.

From volleyed crossbar challenges to top corner drives into a bin there was no challenge too tough for Wright and the duo. Or at least that is how it seemed until they took on the dizzy penalty challenge.

Lynch was unable to even make contact with the ball but Wright showed how he became Arsenal’s all-time record scorer, until he was overtaken by Thierry Henry, his shot was only just wide of the goal and was clearly the best effort.

However the former striker turned pundit was impressed with his own performance, sending a message to his family to remind him he still has what it takes.

Wenger v Gunnersaurus

“Hi Mum,” he said after a spectacular volley. “It’s still happening for me.”

You can watch the full video below as Wright and the F2 Freestylers compete for the best trick shot.

Wright was certainly more impressed with his own performance than his former club’s. He questioned Arsene Wenger’s judgement after his decision to pick David Ospina over Petr Cech for the 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos, labelling the call as “a big mistake”.
