Wales fear that Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey may miss their World Cup qualifiers at the start of next month as he continues to struggle with a hamstring injury.

Ramsey has not played since limping off an hour into the opening game of Arsenal’s season, a 4-3 home loss to Liverpool on August 14.

Arsene Wenger had initially hoped the 25-year-old would be available after the season’s first international break early this month but Ramsey has not yet featured for the side, though he has returned to the training pitch, and is expected to be unavailable for Saturday’s clash with Chelsea.

Standard Sport understands that the Welsh FA have not made a concrete decision on whether to call up Ramsey but assistant manager Osian Roberts offered a downbeat assessment of the midfielder’s prospects of making the party for the October games on BBC Wales Sport.

"There is concern because he has been out for so long," Roberts said.

"It's extremely disappointing after the magnificent tournament Aaron had at the Euros that he picked up an injury in the opening game of the season.

"It's a huge disappointment for him and for all of us. But let's just hope the situation improves for him over the next week or so."

Wales travel to Vienna for a qualifier with Austria on Thursday, 6 October and play Georgia in Cardiff three days later.
