Santi Cazorla has revealed that his surgery to correct an ankle injury was a “perfect” success.

The Arsenal playmaker travelled to Sweden this week in the hope of curing a long-term Achilles problem that has haunted him throughout 2016.

Cazorla’s injury resurfaced during a Champions League win over Ludogorets Razgrad in October and Arsenal confirmed earlier this month that the 31-year-old was likely to be out until March after opting for surgery.

However Cazorla subsequently suggested he could be back a month sooner than his club had expected and offered Arsenal supporters a further boost after exiting the operating theatre earlier today.

“Surgery done,” he wrote on his Instagram feed. “It was perfect! Looking forward to be back [sic] at the Emirates Stadium with you.”

Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that Arsenal would not move for a midfield replacement in the January, not least because they would find it difficult to find a player even close to the quality of their diminutive playmaker.

Wenger said: “There are two reasons - first of all we have the number and the quality and secondly, in the January transfer market, you will not necessarily find a Cazorla, even if you wanted to.”
