Arsene Wenger has reassured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that his future remains at Arsenal in spite of another injury setback that has robbed him of a chance to play at Euro 2016.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had been in the final weeks of his recovery from an initial knee injury in Arsenal’s home defeat to Barcelona in February but a relapse will now see the winger out for a further six to eight weeks, leaving him with no hope of making Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

It is but the latest in a string of injuries for the 22-year-old, who has never managed to play more than 25 league games in a season at Arsenal.

Whilst Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown little sign of improvement over 32 games this season both Manchester City and Liverpool have added him to their summer wish lists, however the youngster remains keen to prove himself at Arsenal.

It is a perspective echoed by Wenger, who assured his injury-plagued youngster that he was in mood to cut his losses.

“We invested a lot of time [in him], so we will not give up now,” Wenger said.

“His injury record in the past few years does not look good but he is a fantastic athlete and we do not see any weaknesses with him.

“He has been out for a while but I wanted him to go to the Euros because he is an impact player who could have made a big contribution to England’s success.”
