Arsenal injury news: Arsene Wenger fears Santi Cazorla's Achilles problem but confident on Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger hinted at fear over an injury to Santi Cazorla’s Achilles injury though remained confident that Alexis Sanchez had come through Arsenal’s 6-0 win over Ludogorets without pain.

Cazorla was withdrawn immediately after a spiralling 50-yard pass set Mesut Ozil free for his first goal, Arsenal’s fourth, and was seen wearing an ice patch on the bench after his 57th minute exit.

The Spanish midfielder missed the majority of last season after a knee injury sustained in November led to trouble in his Achilles and Wenger struck a note of concern when discussing Cazorla’s injury in his post-match press conference.

“He got a kick on the back of his Achilles tendon and I took him off as quick as possible,” Wenger said.

“In my view he was limping a little bit so I didn’t want to take a gamble.”

However the prognosis on Sanchez, who appeared to suffer a knock in the second half and spent much of the second half moving uncomfortably or holding his head in his hands, was significantly less concerning.

“I just wanted to give him a breather,” Wenger confirmed to Standard Sport. “Physically he looks alright.”
