Arsenal have been handed a boost with David Luiz back in training ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final against Villarreal.

The Brazilian has not played since March 21 after suffering a knee injury which required minor surgery to repair.

Luiz has been working hard to get fit since then and he is now back in training ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Villarreal.

The centre-back will be looking to prove his fitness ahead of the game in Spain, which sees Arsenal come up against their former boss Unai Emery.

Luiz has been a regular for Arsenal this season when fit, but his long-term future at the club is still uncertain.

The 34-year-old’s current contract is due to expire at the end of this season and Standard Sport understands that talks over a new deal have yet to take place.

Arsenal may still come to the table, with the club planning to address several players’ futures, and Luiz is relaxed about the situation.

The Brazilian has a number of options to consider before deciding on his next move.

He is keen to get into coaching when he retires, while he has also previously confessed his desire to one day return to former club Benfica.
