Arsenal missed out on the chance to go top of the Premier League as they were beaten by West Ham.

The Gunners dominated much of the possession, but could not turn that into goals and fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Tomas Soucek struck in the first half, before Konstantinos Mavropanos returned to haunt his former club by doubling West Ham's lead after the break.

The defeat means Arsenal stay second in the League and trail Liverpool by two points ahead of a trip to Fulham on Sunday.

Simon Collings was at the Emirates Stadium to rate the Arsenal performances...

David Raya 7

The only time he was really called into action was to pick the ball out of his net. Not much he could do about either goal, and saved a penalty late on.

Ben White 6

Got forward when he could and put in one great cross for Gabriel Jesus, from which the Brazilian should have scored.

William Saliba 6

Untroubled for much of the game as Arsenal dominated so much of the ball. Made Jarrod Bowen feed off scraps.

Gabriel 5

Got in a muddle with Zinchenko for West Ham's opener. Other than he was solid and dealt well with Bowen.

Oleksandr Zinchenko 3

Didn't cover himself in glory for either of West Ham's goals, but especially the second as he lost Mavropanos from a corner. A poor performance.

Martin Odegaard 7

Never stopped pushing and created some of Arsenal's best chances. One of the few who can hold his head high.

A rare off-night for the midfielder against his old club. Passing was off and gave the ball away too often. Gave away a penalty late on too.

Leandro Trossard 4

Given a chance to shine in the absence of Kai Havertz, but he blew it. Sloppy in possession all night.

Bukayo Saka 5

Hit the post towards the end of the first half and looked the most likely to score throughout. Like his team-mates, lacked the final ball.

Gabriel Jesus 4

Missed two great chances in quick succession midway through the second half when Arsenal were desperate for a goal. Wasteful.

Gabriel Martinelli 4

Got past his man on occasion but the final ball was lacking far too often. Looks short on confidence and rightly hooked just after the hour mark.

Substitutions

Eddie Nketiah (Martinelli 64') 5

Typically busy and industrious, but couldn't get the goals Arsenal craved.

Reiss Nelson (Zinchenko 64') 5

No heroics off the bench this time. Booked and sent a free-kick into the top tier.

Emile Smith Rowe (Trossard 79') N/A

Subs not used: Ramsdale, Cedric, Kiwior, Elneny, Jorginho, Nwaneri
