Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes Leicester counterpart Brendan Rodgers is a contender to be named as the manager of the season.

The Foxes crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night after losing to Slavia Prague, but they have been in fine form in the Premier League.

Leicester are currently third in the top-flight ahead of their match with Arsenal on Sunday, six points clear of Chelsea in fifth.

And asked if Rodgers should be considered a contender for manager of the season, Arteta said: “I think so.

“Obviously what Manchester City are achieving at the moment is phenomenal.

“It’s unprecedented and that has to be rewarded but as I mentioned before, what Leicester have done in recent years, what they have already achieved this season, with the level of consistency that they’ve shown in the Premier League, I think [Rodgers winning the award] is something to consider.”
