Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga ruled out of Leeds clash with Covid

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has tested positive for Covid-19.

The Belgian, who joined Arsenal in the summer from Anderlecht, was, as a result, left out of the Gunners’ squad to face Leeds on Saturday.

Premier League clubs have been battling with outbreaks of Covid-19 in the run-up to Christmas and six matches were postponed from this weekend’s schedule.

Arsenal, however, had until recently only been having issues with members of their backroom team testing positive.

Lokonga is the first Arsenal player to test positive for Covid-19 this month and the club will hope they do not have to contend with an outbreak.

Arsenal have already had Covid-19 issues this season as on the eve of their opening game with Brentford they had an outbreak.

On that occasion, Arsenal were without four first-team players but their match at the Bees still took place.

Manager Mikel Arteta has recently called on the Premier League to provide more clarity as to how many cases leads to a game being postponed.
