A small but vocal minority of Arsenal fans continued their protest against manager Arsene Wenger with a second protest in five days ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie against Lincoln City.
Around 300 supporters congregated outside what was once the East Stand of Arsenal’s Highbury stadium, marching to the Emirates ahead of kick-off in the quarter-final match.
Though gauging exact numbers was difficult there appeared to be no significant swell of numbers despite Tuesday’s 5-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich, ahead of which a similar group of protestors had congregated.
Supporters vocally expressed their demand that the club withdraws the offer of a new two-year contract that has been made to Wenger.
Leon Williams, 34, from Highbury said: “I think his time is clearly up. It’s groundhog day every year, we’re just making up the numbers.
“I’d rather be in the Europa League and be in a competition we could actually stand a chance in. It’s getting humiliating. Wenger’s had 20 attempts at winning that trophy and he has failed every time. We are so far off the best teams.
“It would be so depressing if he takes the contract extension.”
However several other supporters who had gathered near the march told Standard Sport that they were reluctant to see Wenger, a three-time Premier League title during his 20-year reign, hounded out of the club.
Speaking ahead of this evening’s game Wenger admitted that he would consider fans’ feelings when he makes a decision on his future, which is not expected until the final weeks of the season at the earliest, but warned it would not be "the most important factor."
