Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos from PAS Giannina.

The two clubs have agreed a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £2.2million.

The Gunners are currently in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, but Mavropanos is considered one for the future and Wenger plans to loan Mavropanos to Werder Bremen immediately rather than consider him for first-team selection.

The 20-year-old recently represented Greece at Under-21 level after breaking into the PAS Giannina team last term.

A club statement from Arsenal read: "Young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us.

"The 20 year-old centre-back arrives from PAS Giannina, where he has made 16 Greek Super League appearances since breaking into the first team last season.

"We’d like to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for the future."
