Arsenal boss Unai Emery has work cut out as Gunners lack creativity in Manchester City defeat

Manchester City started the defence of their Premier League crown with a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday as Unai Emery was handed a tough lesson in his first top-flight game in charge of the Gunners.

Despite signs of a new pressing style from Arsenal, City were ultimately too strong for the north Londoners and goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva secured all three points at the Emirates Stadium.

However, there were some positives to take away for Emery - with Matteo Guendouzi's improving, if raw, debut performance being one.

Unfortunately, there were also negatives as Ainsley Maitland-Niles' injury, which forced him off the pitch in the first half, handing the Arsenal boss a selection headache at left-back ahead of the trip to face Chelsea this weekend.

For City, the obvious positive was the result even if Pep Guardiola admitted afterwards his team can still improve.

Benjamin Mendy, back in the team after a season out injured, also looked promising with two assists at the Emirates Stadium but, according to the City coach, will need to work on his focus to avoid moving out of position as he so often did against Arsenal.

Standard Sport's Vaishali Bhardwaj watched City's win over the Gunners and, in the video above, she discusses the state of both Emery and Guardiola's teams.
