Antonio Conte demands 'aggression and intensity' as he looks to forge new Chelsea identity

Antonio Conte has told his Chelsea players to keep taking the fight to their opponents and prove they won't be pushovers in the title race.

Chelsea beat rivals Liverpool in a pre-season friendly 1-0 on Wednesday night, but the contest on the pitch was anything but amicable.

Six yellow cards were shown (five of which for Liverpool), Cesc Fabregas was sent off for Chelsea, while 37 free kicks were awarded against both sides in 90 minutes.

The Blues players showed they weren't prepared to be bullied by Liverpool during the 90 minutes and Conte feels that is exactly the stance Chelsea need to take to finish top next term.

He said: "I like if my team plays aggressively and with high intensity. I like to see that. We train to prepare for that because I want my team to have an identity.

"I want that if you see Chelsea you recognise 'oh Chelsea are playing'. That is important for me, it is important for the club and the owner – everyone.

"This is my football and everywhere I have been I have been I have worked at that. I always gave an identity to my teams.

"I am searching to transfer this to my players. I am pleased because I see a great attitude.

"I want to continue in this way because this is the only way to come back very soon for the title, not to speak, but with actions. Now is not the moment to talk.”
