Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has predicted that Anthony Martial, Manchester United’s big money signing, will be a Premier League flop.
The 19-year-old became Europe’s second most expensive teenager when he completed a £36 million move to Old Trafford. Should he fulfil clauses within the deal the former Monaco striker could top £50 million.
The fee has been the subject of extensive debate, with one study saying United had paid three times the striker's value.
Martial scored 15 league goals for the French side in 72 appearances and Parlour is concerned that the pressure of living up to his expensive fee may get to the French striker.
"Will Martial succeed? I look forward to seeing him play, but I think it's going to be a miss, because the money they've spent is an unbelievable amount," Parlour told Sky Sports.
"For a 19-year-old kid, he's not proven. If he proves to be like a Thierry Henry, which is what a lot of people are saying, then he could obviously be a great signing, but I think it is a massive gamble to take on a 19-year-old kid.
"With the money they've put out, I could be totally wrong, but I'm going to say miss on that one."

The French international, who has been backed to make the grade at United by Hugo Lloris, Paul Pogba and Louis Saha, could make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
