Ankle trouble could be the knockout blow for James Vaughan

If Crystal Palace striker James Vaughan misses the crucial trip to Doncaster on Friday, it will be because of his injured ankle - not the broken bone in his hand, suffered when he smashed the dressing room wall in frustration after the 2-1 defeat by Scunthorpe.

Vaughan limped through to the end of Saturday's home game because Palace had used all their substitutions and an MRI scan will now determine whether his ankle will recover.

"James reacted out of frustration and there was an incident that saw him damage his hand," said manager Dougie Freedman. "It looks like he has broken a bone but he can play with that. It's the ankle that is a sore and if anything stops him playing it will be that."
