Brendan Rodgers has admitted his disappointment after failing to lure Alexis Sanchez to Anfield.

Liverpool had hoped to sign the Chilean as part of the deal that saw Luis Suarez move to Barcelona, but the former Udinese star opted to sign for Arsenal instead.

Rodgers has, however, signed four players this summer, with former Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, Emra Can from Bayer Leverkusen, and Serbia talent Lazar Markovic from Benfica.

But the Liverpool admits that Alexis would have 'suited' his club's style, conceding that chance to move to England's capital proved crucial.

“He’s a fantastic player and would have suited us," he told reporters. "His profile would have been great but it was not to be and we move on.”

“That was one where geography dictated where he wanted to go - simple as that. It’s been the other way."

“Lots of players are really impressed by what we are doing as a club and really excited about coming to Liverpool.

“It wasn't due to a lack of ambition by the club," he continued.

"It was about where the player and his family wanted to choose to live."
