Santi Cazorla has labelled team-mate Alexis Sanchez “one of the best players in the world” after the Arsenal forward’s impressive start to his second season in England.

Last season’s player of the year, Sanchez has continued where he left off in 2015/16, scoring 10 goals in 17 games for club and country. He was inspirational in last month’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United and will likely have to perform to similar levels if Arsenal are to be successful against Bayern Munich tonight.

But Cazorla, who was rated as Europe’s best defensive midfielder earlier this week, has no doubts his team-mate will continue to improve.

“He’s getting better every day, every year,” he told the club website. “There are no limits for him. The ambition he has right across the board is incredible and that enables him to improve with every passing day.

“We’re lucky to have Alexis with us - I’ve always said that. We hope he keeps that level up. He’s one of the best players in the world.”

Arsenal’s recent form has propelled them to a title challenge that sees them sitting level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. Sanchez is tied with Olivier Giroud for the club’s leading scorer in the competition on six goals and Cazorla wants the Chile international to inspire them to glory.

“Let’s hope he maintains his form for the whole season because we will certainly be a lot stronger with him playing like he is right now.

“Whenever you’re playing with the best players in the world it’s really easy to achieve that understanding. Playing alongside Alexis is a privilege and it’s really easy to understand him on the pitch.”

Sanchez was the only Arsenal player nominated for this year's Ballon d'Or. He was joined on the 23-man list by Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero.
