Alexis Sanchez is not the player that Arsenal need right now, according to former defender Mikael Silvestre.
A series of impressive displays for Chile at the World Cup convinced the Gunners to shell out £35 million to sign the 25-year-old from Barcelona - their second-highest purchase after the £42.5m capture of Mesut Ozil in September 2013.
The 25-year-old's arrival has been lauded by team-mates and supporters alike since arriving in England, but Silvestre has claimed his former employers have made an error in judgement in signing the Chile star.
"Sanchez could have gone anywhere after his tremendous World Cup but I do not think he is the type of player the club need right now," Silvestre told Goal.
"Arsenal have already got that type of player - quick, sharp, fast - they have enough of them already in Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla."

Arsene Wenger has not shied away from spending this summer, bringing in Calum Chambers, David Ospina and Mathieu Debuchy as well as Sanchez to take the Gunners outlay to £63 million.
However, Silvestre, who played 26 times for the north London outfit during a two-year spell before leaving in 2010, believes Wenger should have signed another type of forward.
"What they really need is someone like Olivier Giroud, I think that should be their priority at the moment.
