Per Mertesacker reserved special praise for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil after their match-winning performances in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners raced into a two-goal lead after just seven minutes, with both Alexis and Ozil finding the net, before the Chile international added a third just 13 minutes later.

The pace and fluidity of Arsenal’s attacked stunned Louis van Gaal’s side at the Emirates, but Mertesacker insists it came as no surprise to him – especially with Ozil and Sanchez in the side.

"It's very important that they find each other in the final third," he told the club’s official website.

"We are very dangerous on the break and even more so with Alexis and Ozil."

"We pushed really hard in the first 10 or 15 minutes and after that we tried to defend as well as possible, and most of the time we did that.
