Alex Iwobi: Training with Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez was better for me than going out on loan

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has admitted he is pleased he didn't go out on loan this season because he feels he has developed into a better footballer training alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners were expected to send the 19-year-old out on loan to gain regular first-team football this term, but he stayed and has now gone on to break into Arsenal's starting 11 - impressing in his Champions League and Premier League debuts against Barcelona and Everton respectively last week.

Iwobi also capped off a superb week by scoring his first top-flight goal in the Gunners' 2-0 win away to Everton on Saturday, and the forward has now said he feels he has learned more by staying at Arsenal and training every day with the club's stars than if he had spent the campaign away from the Emirates Stadium.

"With going out on loan, it's men's football so you have to win all the time [and develop] that 'anything to win' kind of mentality. So you learn things quicker on loan," Iwobi told the Arsenal Weekly podcast.

"But when you're playing with world-class players and training with them every day you become a better footballer in my opinion. You learn a lot more training with the likes of [Mesut] Ozil and [Alexis] Sanchez."
