Manchester United have finally agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The England under 21 international will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second signing of the summer in a deal worth £50million.

While United have yet to officially confirm the right back’s move, it is understood they reached a breakthrough in negotiations on Tuesday, which will see Wan-Bissaka head to Carrington for a medical this week.

Palace had been holding out for a guaranteed up-front payment of £50m for the right back, twice rejecting offers of around £35m plus performance-related add-ons.

But after further talks with United’s chief negotiator Matt Judge, a deal was finally struck to secure one of Solskjaer’s leading summer targets.

As reported by Standard Sport on Tuesday, the Norwegian coach was determined to land Wan-Bissaka before the end of the week, with United still to conclude the majority of their summer business.

Solskjaer wants the club to speed up moves for Harry Maguire, Sean Longstaff and a second midfield target, with Bruno Fernandes among the names they are considering.

Wan-Bissaka will become United’s most expensive defender of all-time – and behind only Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria and Fred in their all-time list of record signings.

The Old Trafford club’s willingness to eventually meet Palace’s asking price is evidence of their determination to focus on emerging British talent this summer.

Belgium international Thomas Meunier was considered an back-up option – but Solskjaer has made it clear to executive vice chairman Ed Woodward that he wants to load his squad with domestic players.

Wales winger Daniel James became United’s first signing of the summer in a deal that could rise to £22m with add-ons.

An official bid for Newcastle’s Longstaff is expected imminently, while Maguire, Declan Rice and Jadon Sancho were all included on Solskjaer’s wanted list during this transfer window.

Maguire is expected to become United’s priority once Wan-Bissaka is wrapped up – but they face competition from Manchester City for the England international, who Leicester value at £90m.
