Barcelona midfielder Pedri won the 2021 Kopa Trophy during Monday’s ceremony for the Ballon d’Or.

At 19, the Spaniard has made himself an integral part of the Blaugrana side and starred at Euro 2020 and the Olympic Games, winning the Young Player of the Euros award.

England internationals Mason Greenwood, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham were all up for the prize, which was founded in 2018.

Bellingham came second in the voting with Greenwood in fifth and Saka the sixth from the ten nominees. Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes finished fourth, behind third-placed Jamal Musiala.

Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremy Doku and Giovanni Reyna rounded out the top ten.

The award, named after French legend Raymond Kopa, is handed out to the best player in the world under the age of 21, and was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kylian Mbappe romped home to the inaugural honour before Matthijs de Ligt beat Jadon Sancho to the 2019 trophy.
