Five star Balaji shows no mercy

14 April 2012

Pace bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji took five wickets in a Test innings for the first time as India bowled out Pakistan for 312 on the opening day in Mohali.

Balaji trapped Naved-ul-Hasan leg before to finish with five for 76 to justify skipper Sourav Ganguly's decision to put the visitors in at the start of their first series in India for six years.

Asim Kamal hit 14 fours to rescue Pakistan from 156 for five but was bowled for 91 by Balaji with the second new ball.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq made 57 before falling to spinner Anil Kumble.

The big surprise was India's decision to leave out off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in favour of a three-man pace attack.
