ALLAN SIMONSEN - Charlton (1982)

CLAUDIO CANIGGIA - Dundee (2000) Played 50 times for Argentina - and 24 times for Dundee, who signed him on a free transfer from Atalanta. Sold to Rangers for £900,000.

OSSIE ARDILES - Tottenham (1978) Arrived from Argentina in a blaze of publicity with World Cup-winning compatriot Ricardo Villa. Spent almost a decade at Spurs and was later manager for a season and a half.

FABRIZIO RAVANELLI - Middlesbrough (1996) A European Cup winner with Juventus, 'The White Feather' moved to Boro for £7million and was the Premiership's top scorer in his first season. Stayed at the Riverside when Boro were relegated in 1997.

JURGEN KLINSMANN - Tottenham (1994) The German World Cup winner cost £2million from Monaco, but upset chairman Alan Sugar by leaving for Bayern Munich after a season.Returned on loan three years later and helped save the club from relegation.
