Fitness doubts delay Morgan's Spurs deal

Wimbledon winger winger Lionel Morgan has been told he must prove his fitness before he can complete a £350,000 move to Tottenham.

The 20-year-old missed the final two months of last season with a knee injury and has made only 11 first-team starts in three seasons.

Wimbledon, meanwhile, have claimed some of their players have been paid for the period since the club went into administration. Players have received pay dating from 6 June - but wages for the previous month may remain unpaid until the Morgan deal is completed.

Harry Redknapp confirmed today that he wants to sign Darren Anderton from Spurs to replace Paul Merson.

Anderton could become the third player to switch to Portsmouth from White Hart Lane this summer, following in the footsteps of Tim Sherwood and Teddy Sheringham.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson, who helped Portsmouth to the First Division title last season, is leaving and and manager Redknapp said: "I've spoken to people at Tottenham and declared my interest in Darren. He's a class player. He has had his injury problems, but if we could get him here and get him playing he'd be an asset."

Spurs were today linked with a move for Patrick Kluivert, of Barcelona. He is available for £1.25million but his wage demands of £100,000 a week are likely to be a problem.
