Fiery Cole eyes glory

12 April 2012

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is determined to go one better than he did with former club Arsenal and lift the Champions League crown this season.

Cole reached the final of the competition with the Gunners last season but ended up losing out to Barcelona but now the Blues star is within sight of another final appearance as Chelsea look to reach the last four of the competition at the expense of Valencia on Tuesday.

Cole said: "I have been there before in the final and was disappointed to lose. Hopefully this year could be my year to pick it up."

David Silva's vital away goal in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge last week means Chelsea have to score, but that will not be easy in the intimidating Mestalla where Cole has tasted defeat with Arsenal once before.

Cole added: "We need to score goals. We have that within our players and we are confident we can do that and keep a clean sheet.

"The main thing for us is to attack and get as many goals as we can. It is going to be a physical, hard game. We don't mind putting it about ourselves and if that's the game we have to play, then we'll have to play it.

"I came here (Mestalla) with Arsenal and lost 1-0. It is a great ground and they have passionate fans here.

"It is going to be hostile but I have played in a lot of games now under the same circumstances and a lot of the other players have as well. We know what is expected of us. Hopefully, we can blot all that out, be professional and get a result."
