Ferguson `sick` after losing captaincy

Barry Ferguson's agent has revealed how the deposed Rangers captain was left feeling "physically sick" when he was stripped of the armband.

The midfielder, 28, looks unlikely to play for the Ibrox club again while Paul Le Guen remains as manager.

Ferguson's agent, John Viola, said: "Barry is where he is in the game today because of his passion and determination but he's been left feeling physically sick by what has happened to him following the meeting with the manager. He is devastated and not a happy camper."

The Gers boss claimed after Tuesday's 1-0 Bank of Scotland Premier League win at Motherwell that he had no choice but to axe Ferguson after being undermined by his skipper in the dressing room.

Viola added: "It might be difficult for Barry to look positively on the idea of playing for the manager again.

"How does he convince himself they can go forward together in future?"

Viola will hold talks with chairman Sir David Murray in the hope of salvaging Ferguson's Ibrox career.

But he insists there is already interest in his client should he fail to reach a reconciliation with Rangers.

He told the Daily Record: "Football is a funny business and anything can happen.

"If there's no compromise and Rangers say Barry has to go then we will need to look at that situation. I've already had calls from two people at the highest level of other clubs concerning Barry's future but I want to talk to the Rangers hierarchy first of all."
