Fergie: Ruud is getting better

13 April 2012

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson claims Ruud van Nistelrooy has added unpredictability to his game as Manchester United prepare for tonight's Champions League return against Nantes.

Ferguson is delighted by van Nistelrooy's form in his first season at the club and the £19million striker has scored 28 goals in 34 competitive appearances.

Ferguson feels he is getting better with each game and admits that at times even he does not know what van Nistelrooy is going to do next.

"I think he's humble enough to know he has to improve if he's going to be considered as one of the best," said the United manager.

"Therefore he's trying to improve the quality of his game all the time.

"He received the ball in the second half on Saturday, turned and knocked it just past the post so quickly and decisively that it surprised me.

"That's where you can see an improvement and I think he's starting to add an unpredictability to his game that all great goalscorers have. You don't know what he's going to do next."

Van Nistelrooy will once again lead United's attack at Old Trafford as the Group A leaders go in search of the win which will move them closer to a place in the quarter-finals.

That means birthday boy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is 29 today, will start on the bench.

Paul Scholes is United's only selection worry as he has had a chest infection.
