Ferdinand, Carrick and Brown agree new contracts

Proud: Rio Ferdinand says he loves being part of a successful team

Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown have all agreed new contracts with Manchester United.

Chief executive David Gill told Sir Alex Ferguson the news in an early morning meeting. The United manager said today: "I'm not sure of the length of the contracts, but David phoned me to tell me they have agreed the contracts. It continues our policy of lengthening contracts at the right time and keeps the continuity of the first-team squad going."

It is expected that all three players have long-term deals, with Brown putting an end to intense speculation over his future after extending a contract that was due to run out in the summer.

The 28-year-old has played a key role for United this season at right-back as Gary Neville has been sidelined by injury.

Reports this week suggested Ferdinand would agree a five-year contract worth £130,000 a week and the England centre-half is delighted his future is now settled.

"It's a proud day for me," said the 29-year-old. "I'm enjoying my time at United, I love being here. Being part of a successful team is great."

Midfielder Carrick, 26, is in his second season at United following his move from Tottenham.
