Fallon confesses: I have been very stupid

Kieren Fallon today denied claims that he is a race-fixer and vowed to save his career.

Speaking for the first time since allegations emerged about Ballinger Ridge's defeat at Lingfield, the champion jockey said: "I've been very stupid."

Fallon, who was duped into giving tips by an undercover reporter, added: "We've been warned against this many times. I was totally innocent of what was going on but have ended up being very stupid.

"I've let so many people down who have supported me over the years. It's just turned out terrible."

Last Tuesday the Irishborn rider dropped his hands at a crucial stage and lost a race he should have won to the favourite, Rye.

He was banned for 21 days, but the Jockey Club are looking to see if there is a link between irregular betting patterns on the race and Fallon's riding.

The jockey said: "I may have said Rye should win but that does not mean I would not win on mine if I could. It's impossible to fix a race because of the amount of horses that run."
