FA fine Hasselbaink

12 April 2012

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been fined by the Football Association after being found guilty of improper conduct and bringing the game into disrepute.

The Charlton striker was docked £5,000 and warned about his future conduct over claims made in his autobiography about former club Chelsea. The Dutchman accused the Stamford Bridge club of making illegal payments to players in his book, which was also serialised in a national newspaper.

The FA released a statement, which read: "He said in his book that Chelsea had paid an additional bonus to the players following the Champions League quarter-final victory over Arsenal in April 2004. Such a payment would have breached Premier League rules."

The statement continued: "The story also appeared in the serialisation of the autobiography in the News of the World in October 2005.

"The Premier League conducted a thorough inquiry into the alleged bonus payments and found no evidence to support the claims, which were denied by Chelsea.

"The case was therefore referred to The FA, who conducted their own inquiry into Hasselbaink's conduct."

Hasselbaink had denied the charge in August.
