The prestigious magazine came under fire in the United States last September after swimming champion Jenny Thompson was shown naked apart from a tiny, tight-fitting pair of stars-and-stripes shorts, her clenched fists over her breasts.
The magazine is read by 57 million people worldwide.
Previous cover girls include Elle Macpherson and Christie Brinkley.
