Evans ruled out with injury

12 April 2012

Scotland centre Max Evans is set to miss the start of next season after being ruled out for up to six months with a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old Glasgow star, who burst on to the international scene last autumn, now faces a race against time to be fit for the November Tests against Fiji, Australia and Argentina.

A scan on Tuesday showed Evans suffered a medial ligament injury and cartilage damage following a tackle just after half-time of Sunday's 34-23 Magners League defeat at the Ospreys.

He was taken off on a stretcher and will now undergo surgery.

Evans had been hoping to earn a late call-up to the Lions squad following Tom Shanklin's withdrawal with a shoulder injury.

But, like the Wales centre, he is now facing a lengthy spell of rehabilitation.

Glasgow team doctor Gerry Haggerty said on Tuesday: "The outcome of yesterday's scan shows that Max's anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is intact, which is positive news.

"He has a medial ligament injury and some cartilage damage.

"He will undergo an operation to repair the cartilage and this procedure will also uncover any injury to the ACL that the scan may not have revealed.

"At this stage, we can estimate that Max could be out for approximately four to six months."
