Etherington wants to stay

West Ham winger Matthew Etherington fears he might be sold to ease the club's financial worries.

The former England Under-21 international wants to stay at Upton Park despite catching the eye of Birmingham manager Steve Bruce.

The 23-year-old said today: "I am more than happy at West Ham and I don't want to go anywhere. But it is up to the club. If they want to sell me, they will do. I've not been told anything."

Manager Alan Pardew also wants Etherington to stay to help the club's faltering promotion bid. He said: "I can't control speculation but I don't believe I am under any pressure to sell."

Defender Chris Powell said: "It might bring in some money in the short-term but, hopefully, the directors will see the big prize is getting into the Premiership."
