Etherington transfer row

On the move: Matthew Etherington has moved to West Ham

Tottenham were today at the centre of a transfer row over Matthew Etherington.

Peterborough will report Spurs to the Football League and the Premier League over the winger's move to West Ham.

The Second Division club are angry because they say Spurs told them Etherington was valued at just £500,000 instead of £1.5 million in the deal which took Freddie Kanoute to White Hart Lane.

The valuation means Peterborough would collect nothing from Etherington's transfer.

When Tottenham bought Etherington from United for £500,000 three years ago, they agreed to pay Posh 15 per cent of any future sale of the England under-21 international above that fee.

Manager Barry Fry said: "I find it astonishing because when he was linked with Charlton this summer, Spurs were rating him at £1.5m."

"We will be making a complaint to the Football League who will take it up with the Premiership."

The League refused to comment until they have received the complaint.
