England below US in rankings

13 April 2012

England have dropped below Turkey and the United States in FIFA's world rankings.

In the new table issued today, Sven-Goran Eriksson's team are ninth, two behind World Cup semi-finalists Turkey and one behind the USA.

Wales rose 13 places to 76th but Scotland's slump continued, with Berti Vogts's team now in an all-time low of 63rd place. The 2-2 draw in the Faroe Islands put Scotland below Zimbabwe and Angola.

The Scots dropped three places as a result, with the Faroes gaining four to move up to 119th.

Under-pressure Vogts takes his side to Iceland next month in search of that elusive first competitive win.

Iceland, 54th in the rankings, were not in action when the Scots kicked off their Euro 2004 qualification campaign in tiny Toftir.

The top 10 is: 1 Brazil, 2 France and Spain, 4 Germany, 5 Argentina, 6 Mexico, 7 Turkey, 8 USA, 9 England, 10 Italy.
