Edwards jumps at Crystal Palace chance

Olympic and world triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards today became the latest big name to confirm his place in the Norwich Union Grand Prix in London next month.

Organisers are hoping to confirm he will face his Swedish rival Christian Olsson - the man tipped to succeed Edwards as world No1.

The 36-year-old said: "It's a hectic season for me this year, but they don't come any bigger than Crystal Palace.

"I jumped 18 metres here in 1995 - the second longest in the world at that time - so it's a venue I have a lot of time for.

"It's great that Christian could be there as well. Such strong competition can only be good for the sport."

The meeting on 23 August will provide Edwards with the perfect homecoming should he win European gold in Munich on 8 August.

Meanwhile, Edwards faces another world-class field at tonight's IAAF Golden League meeting in Monaco.
