Double delight as Kournikova bounces back

13 April 2012

Anna Kournikova is on course for success in the doubles and singles in the Shanghai Open as she erases the memories of her poor US Open.

The Russian glamour girl was booed off the court in New York last month after a firstround defeat.

But in her first tournament since that debacle, she has made progress in China.

Later today, the fourth-seeded Russian faces unfancied Zheng Jie of China in the singles quarter-final after beating Australia's Mireille Dittmann 6-1, 6-4.

Kournikova has plunged down the rankings to No 38 after losing in the first round at each of this year's Grand Slams.

"My game is very good at the moment but my ranking is still pretty low from what it used to be," she said.

Kournikova is also through to the doubles semi-finals with Taiwanese partner Janet Lee.
