Donald is fired-up to carry form to Detroit

14 April 2012

Luke Donald hailed yesterday's European Masters victory in Switzerland as even more satisfying than his Scandinavian Masters success a month ago.

The 26-year-old celebrated his Ryder Cup selection by destroying team-mates Miguel Angel Jimenez, the overnight leader, and Sergio Garcia at Crans-sur-Sierre.

After seeing off the two Spaniards with a final-round 66, Donald said: "I am over the moon right now and it feels great. This win means even more than Sweden, even though that was my first win on the European Tour.

"Sweden got me into the Ryder Cup, but in this one I was up against a stronger field."

The former Walker Cup member also took the opportunity to thank Bernhard Langer publicly for his wildcard selection and he believes the Americans have been warned.

"Thanks Bernhard for choosing me and I hope this week validates that selection,"Donald said. "I just hope I can take this to Detroit."

Jimenez, last week's BMW International Open winner, carded a 72 to miss out on a fifth win this year.

Garcia also finished with a 72 to tie for third place with Robert Coles and Eduardo Romero.
