Dodd weathers the storm

14 April 2012

Stephen Dodd defied bitter cold, wind and rain in Shanghai today to produce one of the best rounds of his golf career.

A two-under-par 70 in the second round of the Volvo China Open took the 38-year-old former British amateur champion to the top of the leaderboard ahead of fellow Welshman Bradley Dredge with a six-under-par halfway total of 138.

Although Dredge could do no better than 75 to stand two under, that was still five strokes better than joint overnight leader Unho Park, the Australian crashing to three over.

Dodd, whose 58th place on the 2004 European order of merit, said: "I've never played a tournament in conditions like that. I've never felt that cold before."
