Joey Barton fears he may be forced to continue his career away from England after the latest controversial episode in his career.

Barton, who has been suspended by Manchester City after a fight with team-mate Ousmane Dabo at the club's training ground, has alerted Italian clubs that he will be available in the summer.

French World Cup winner Marcel Desailly, now a scout for AC Milan, is among those who have asked to be kept informed about the situation.

Barton was wanted by a host of English clubs including Everton and Middlesbrough during last summer's transfer window but has decided he may be better off starting afresh in a new league after his latest disgraceful actions.

Yesterday Dabo, who was hospitalised by Barton's actions, reported the player to the police.

The midfielder, who made his England debut this season, has a clause in his contract which says he can go for £5.5 million and City will not want to stop him after giving him several final chances'.

Barton, 24, was fined by the club for stubbing out a cigar in a team-mate's eye at a party. The following year he attacked a schoolboy Everton fan in Thailand.

One compromise would be to join Celtic, who have asked his advisers to keep them informed.
