Defoe and King prove too costly

Jermain Defoe and Ledley King are the only big-name Tottenham players not to have attracted interest from other clubs during the transfer window.

Head coach Martin Jol claims to have been bombarded with calls regarding the availability of the majority of his inform side - with the exception of the highly-rated England duo.

The revelation comes on the eve of Spurs' clash with Chelsea, who have been persistently linked with a move for top scorer Defoe.

Jol said: "There has been an enquiry about all the players I have - except for Jermain Defoe and Ledley King, because they are too expensive. It gives me great satisfaction because it is a good sign that other clubs are making these enquiries." Spurs have not lost in the Premiership for eight matches, with the team responding well to Jol's expansive brand of football. Of the soughtafter players, Robbie Keane has been linked with Everton and Aston Villa, Fredi Kanoute eyed by Barcelona and Noe Pamarot targeted by Southampton.

Jol also confirmed the club are still in the hunt for a top-class winger in the mould of Chelsea's Arjen Robben or Damien Duff.

He added: "Where I come from, we always play with wingers. We are looking for a second Arjen Robben, but we can't find one. He's the best player in Holland since Johan Cryff, so it's difficult."

Kanoute has returned to training following a hamstring injury and is expected to be in contention as Spurs bid for a first league win over their west London rivals since 1990.
