Gerwyn Price overcame a late crisis of confidence to beat Gary Anderson and clinch the World Darts Championship in a thrilling final at Alexandra Palace.

It was the Flying Scotsman against the Welsh 'Iceman' and the latter stormed into a 5-1 lead in the best-of-13 series.

The sixth set was the standout as Price averaged a score of over 136 for the set - a PDC World Championship record - as he looked to wrap up a masterclass performance.

However, Price went on to miss a remarkable 11 match darts for the title as his wait for a first world title was agonisingly delayed.

Two-time champion Anderson failed to capitalise on his opponent faltering, and Price eventually held his nerve to land a double five to be crowned world champion and land the £500,000 prize money.

Price is now world no.1 thanks for the 7-3 victory, overtaking Michael van Gerwen who had held the spot for seven years.
