Darlington crash out of cup

12 April 2012

Blue Square North side Droylsden dumped Coca-Cola League Two leaders Darlington out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory in their first-round replay.

Matthew Tipton (26) scored the winner with a strike from the edge of the area but the night was overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to Quakers striker Liam Hatch.

Hatch suffered a suspected broken neck during an aerial challenge and the game was delayed for more than half an hour before he could be taken to hospital by ambulance.

Elsewhere, Lincoln were stunned by Iyseden Christie's injury-time header which condemned them to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Blue Square Premier promotion hopefuls Kettering.

Lenell John-Lewis's header (53) had put the Imps ahead but Craig Westcarr (68) pegged them back before Christie's last-gasp winner.

Carlisle were thankful for a floodlight failure after 20 minutes which led to their tie against Blue Square Premier Grays being abandoned. The Cumbrians were trailing 1-0 at the time after Sam Sloma's 19th-minute goal.

Ridgeons Premier League side Leiston, the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition, were knocked out after a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood, who had Andy Bell (48) and Adam Warlow (79) to thank for their victory.

In the battle of two Blue Square Premier sides, Barrow hammered Eastbourne 4-0 thanks to goals from Richard Brodie (45), Paul Brown (47), Matt Henney (57), and a long-range Carlos Logan free-kick (75).
