Dallaglio hails skipper Johnson

13 April 2012

Lawrence Dallaglio led the tributes to England team-mate and Lions history-maker Martin Johnson.

England captain Johnson will lead the Lions in Australia this summer, retaining his job from the 2-1 Test win over South Africa four years ago.

He becomes the first player to skipper successive tours, having seen off a hopeful, but distant chasing pack including Dallaglio, Ireland's Keith Wood and Wales' David Young. Dallaglio, who Johnson replaced as England captain in 1999, has no doubt Lions coach Graham Henry made the right decision.

The Wasps back-row forward, who will join Johnson Down Under, said: "In 1997, he proved he's capable of doing the job. I am delighted for him. He deserves it, he is a very special player.

"Martin has the hunger and desire to give the best that he can. He goes about his business in a tremendous fashion."
