Dallaglio delight at record win

13 April 2012

England powerhouse Lawrence Dallaglio said he was pleased to have negotiated a "potentially tricky" Six Nations clash with Scotland.

The tournament favourites hammered Scotland 43-3 with a powerful display to claim the Calcutta Cup.

Dallaglio and Iain Balshaw notched two tries each as the hosts amassed a record win over their traditional rivals.

Dallaglio said: "It's nice to get on the scoresheet but it's even nicer to win.

"We've taken a bit of criticism about our defence this season and I think it's down to concentration.

"Certainly in training all week the defence has been spot-on and we took that into the game today and we were determined even at the end there not to let them in.

"There's always a period in the game when we seem to lose shape and that was in the second half, for 10 or 15 minutes there was a lot of turnovers.

"But we'll take that result, that was potentially quite a tricky match and we played well in parts."

Jason Robinson lit up the closing stages with a wonderful cameo as England put aside the uncertainties created by the foot-and-mouth crisis in an inspired 80 minutes.

Their biggest winning margin over the Scots - and their ninth successive victory at Twickenham - was guaranteed by tries from Richard Hill and Will Greenwood, and Jonny Wilkinson supplied another excellent kicking display with five conversions and a penalty.

Man-of-the-match Balshaw added: "I made quite a few mistakes but I'm delighted with the performance."
