Criquette Head-Maarek set to bowl rivals over with another special delivery

Special Duty should be all the rage in a top-class renewal of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

Nine fillies are due to go to post for the £170,000 six-furlong showpiece at 2.30 and the crack French raider can give trainer Criquette Head-Maarek her fourth success in the race following on from Ma Biche (1982), Ravinella (1987) and Pas De Reponse (1996).

Special Duty has twice mixed it with colts this season, coming out on top to win the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte in July and then finishing a short-neck second to Arcano in the Group 1 Prix Morny over six furlongs at Deauville in August.

That last piece of form looks exceptional. Although there were just five runners, Special Duty led until the dying strides and was only just touched off by the Brian Meehan runner. She had the previously unbeaten Canford Cliffs behind in third.

No wonder connections of the filly, who will be ridden by Stephane Pasquier, are bullish.

Teddy Grimthope, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "She worked well the other morning and is in good form. If Brian Meehan's filly Lady Of The Desert is better than Arcano, we'd have a fight on our hands, but if not we'd have to be quite hopeful."

A disappointingly small field lines up for the Group 1 Middle Park and the same owner has a decent chance of striking again with the John Gosden-trained Showcasing.

But POET'S VOICE (3.05) can continue Godolphin's fine run of form by landing the six-furlong event.

Frankie Dettori's mount drops back in trip having raced exclusively over seven furlongs. The colt showed plenty of natural pace when making all the running to land the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last time and travels so well that it will take a very smart type to get by him.

With trainer Marco Botti giving Martin Dwyer the leg up, ELECTRIC FEEL (1.25) will get every assistance from the saddle in the Group 3 Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes. The filly was finishing really well here when beaten narrowly by Jira over six furlongs in June and should make the frame at a decent price.

In an above-average renewal of the Group 3 Nayef Joel Stakes, CONFRONT (1.55) looks the obvious choice.

Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old runs here in preference to a Group 1 contest at Longchamp this weekend and should make a bold bid to complete his hat-trick.
